April 14 rally for Justice for Andy Avila

rQRo's picture

Just FYI and wanted to tell all our readers and supporters that the Justice 4 Andy Avila Committee reached out to invite us to their next rally for justice for Andy. He was murdered by Pomona Police a little more than a year ago and still the family has no justice. Let's make this a big one!

Hi, we will be holding a demonstration in Pomona against police brutality for Andy Avila on April 14 at the intersection of Holt and Garey. We will be there from 1-4pm. We will march to police station at 3pm. I hope you will be able to join us. Thank you!

Community vigil for Andres Avila in Pomona attended by families of other victims

We had mentioned on this blog that the family and supporters of Andy Avila were planning on holding a demonstration this past Sunday and encouraged our supporters to attend. Not many members of CWIE were able to attend, but some did, and there is even a report, with photos, in the independent media:

Press-Enterprise follows up on CWIE protest

The crime reporter from the P-E did a follow-up on the earlier blog post, and he credits us as the group protesting the murder. He also quotes one of our members at length! Hopefully this will help create a buzz around the movement for justice for Lamon Haslip and for all victims of police abuse!

CopWatch IE protests shooting of Lamon Haslip at MoVal city council meeting

A small group of IE CopWatchers attended the Moreno Valley city council meeting last night to protest the shooting death of the handcuffed 18-year-old Lamon Haslip and to commemorate his life. Surprisingly enough, the P-E gave us some coverage! No credit, but coverage, at least. Here is a link:

Scandalous stop in Fontana results in beating, deportation

rQRo's picture

OK, this is a little bit complex. The press is reporting that an "unruly" crowd "interfered" with the interrogation and arrest of this man, and that he was suspected of DUI (at least according to the Daily Bull, although the P-E makes no mention of that).

What the community is telling us is that the guy was racially profiled and stopped for suspicion of not having a license. The people who crowded around, they say, were family members and neighbors who were protesting the injustice.
